Essex Print Studio hosts workshops and classes in a range of printmaking techniques. We invite practising, professional printmakers to design and run some exciting and interesting classes at Hippo Screenprinters’ studio in Margaretting. We are also working with some alternative venues in Essex in which to hold a selection of our classes in order to expand our possibilities.

Our workshops and classes are designed to appeal to everyone from interested beginners to professional artists wishing to extend their practice. The list below will continue to expand and grow as we add additional exciting events so keep checking back for updates.

Students will draw their own designs, which could include animals, flowers, aliens, hearts, unicorns, and even their name. The drawings are cut out of paper to create stencils and the students choose their ink colours, put the ink on the screen and use a squeegee to pull their print.

If students would like to bring along a plain t-shirt, pillowcase or tote bag they can print their design onto that as well.
Sharon and Lynne will demonstrate every step, so this workshop is suitable for beginners.

The Xcut Xpress is a portable die cutting machine but many people have discovered that it makes a brilliant home printing press ! It is small, affordable and prints really good prints from Etching plates, Lino blocks, Collagraphs and even, as we discovered in one of our previous classes, Mokulito prints !!

Come and join us for a relaxed and fun day of dry point drawing onto metal and plastic plates and learn to use the Xcut to print them with.

If you have already discovered the Xcut and want to bring along your own to use please feel free to do so.

If you would like to purchase an Xcut Xpress from us on the day we will need you to order and pay for it before the class so please get in touch via email a minimum of 2 weeks prior to the class.

Group bookings welcome – we can accommodate up to 5 people. All materials provided. Suitable for beginners and those with some experience.

We are excited to offer this weekend workshop, which is suitable for both beginners and experienced printmakers.

Waterless Litho is a form of lithography producing aluminium lithographic plates using ordinary silicone rubber as an ink rejecting surface. It is a great technique for anyone who enjoys drawing and experimenting with different kinds of mark-making. Unlike in traditional lithography, which uses expensive, toxic materials, this type of printing uses cheap items available at any corner shop!

We will be printing our Litho prints using the excellent portable ‘Xcut Xpress’ die cutting machine which is a very affordable way of making great prints at home.

All ticket sales are final and we cannot offer any refunds except in exceptional circumstances.

Suitable for beginners and those with some experience
