Solar Plate

Solar Plate Saturday

Saturday 29th April 2017

11am – 5pm

£70 per person

Tutor: Dawn Cole
Venue: Essex Print Studio

This 1 day workshop will introduce you to the 2 basic techniques used for solar plate etching; single and double exposure.

A solar plate (or photopolymer plate) is a steel plate coated with a light sensitive polymer layer. The plate is exposed to uv light (weather permitting using natural sunlight) and washed out in water. This environmentally friendly printmaking technique can be used to produce images that can be printed in both intaglio and relief using hand drawn images, photographs, natural materials, photocopies etc as the starting point to making a plate.

We recommend you bring a packed lunch with you but everything else you need will be provided.

Lino printing is one of the most accessible forms of printmaking and also one of the most satisfying. It is actually a very simple technique which gives striking results. In this 3 hour evening class you will learn how to carve a simple image or pattern into a block of linoleum, roll a layer of ink onto it, lay your paper on top and take some prints from it.

The skills which you learn, and your finished linocut block, from this class can be taken forward into a follow up 'Clay Workshop' at Ceramics On The Hop where you will learn how to emboss your design into a handmade clay tile.

Bring along some ideas of designs you would like to use - keep them simple and bold ! We will provide everything else you need.

Suitable for beginners and those who wish to use Lino Printing to move onto a future clay workshop.

27th & 28th May 2017

10.00am – 4.30pm

£150 per person

Tutor: Lynne Blackburn
Venue: Essex Print Studio

This 2 day workshop is designed for those with some previous experience of screenprinting who want to refresh or expand their knowledge of the process. It is a perfect follow on workshop for those who attended our 'Screenprinting for Beginners'.

You will be aiming to go home with a small edition of 2 colour screen prints, printed using a combination of different processes. You will also go away with the ability to confidently prepare designs and print them on your own.

We will teach you how to prepare your design ready to print, using a combination of hand done processes - including hand drawn or painted acetates, paper cut stencils and the use of drawing fluid to draw directly onto the screen - and digital photographic stencils; coat and expose a screen, register the paper and produce succesful prints onto different types of paper.

Bring along your ideas for a 2 colour, A4 design and, if you want to include photographic elements, an image saved on a usb stick. It's also a good idea to bring a packed lunch as we are a long way from the shops ! We will supply everything else you need.

Suitable for those with some experience of screenprinting.
